Before founding FULL SPECTRUM PHOTOGRAPHY & JOURNALISM, Joel was a freelance outdoor photographer and writer for over 15 years. He has written for a wide range of magazines over the years, including, in his earlier years, New York Sportsman, New York Fish & Game, and New York Outdoors. Since then he has written for Sport Diver, Offshore, and other magazines, and is now a contributing writer to Cabela's Outfitter Journal and a columnist and feature article writer for The Fisherman Magazine.
Joel has been an outdoor sportsman all of his life and considers himself to be extremely fortunate that after many years in direct marketing he has been able to follow his passion as a photographer and outdoor writer. His "bread and butter" is Commercial Photography, working with architectural contractors and shooting the interiors of office buildings and exclusive homes on the North Shore of Long Island. His business also includes product photography and corporate portraiture. The other side of his business includes landscape, nature, and wildlife photography and, as an outdoor writer, he does product reviews and on-location photo shoots for the outdoor manufacturing, retail, catalog, and distribution industry.
He has traveled to Alaska, extensively hiked the Grand Canyon, extensively traveled throughout upstate New York and, of course, extensively photographed Long Island, his place of residence. He is an award winning nature and landscape photographer and is currently writing his first book, "Best Hikes Near New York City," that will be published by Globe Pequot Publishing and will be out in the spring of 2008.
Joel is also a NYSDEC Licensed Fishing and Hiking Guide, serves on the Suffolk County "Commercial & Recreational Fishing Task Force," and is a Hike Coach for the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society's Adventure program "Hike for Discovery."
Memberships: American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP), New York State Outdoor Writers Association (NYSOWA), Association of Great Lakes Outdoor Writers (AGLOW), Outdoor Writers Association of America (OWAA), and is a member of the CANON Professional Photographers Services |
