Hi-Tech Maps for High Tournament Finishes Dateline Syracuse, NY July 25 2007
uses hi-tech maps to prepare for tournaments across NY
A recent first place finish in the Russ Louk Memorial Tournament on Conesus lake (July, 7 2007) and a second place finish just two weeks later in a BFL (Bass Fishing League) event held on Oneida lake are only two examples of high finishes as a result of pre-tournament scouting with Underwater Technologies maps. When asked how he consistently finds his fish, Alex says "I use the 3-D maps to find spawning flats, pockets with creeks in the backs of them, or any underwater irregularities." “Then I use the aerial photography to look for shorelines in these areas with the right water color and cover." The shallow water expert says that for Oneida he marked a dozen or more likely areas on the map. To find these areas while on the water, Alex enters the waypoints from the GPS coordinate overlay into his GPS unit. "The GPS coordinate cursor on the new Oneida map has really made waypoints a lot easier (to determine) from the map."
